Round #20 (Mark II) - Just get it to Nas

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera

I wrote about Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera earlier in the year after his heroics against the Cats in Round 2.

It seems he was just getting started.

I have a favourite quote:

"The most important person in a club is the one with the ball in their hand".

It was never truer than late Sunday afternoon.

The game has never seen anything like yesterday - the biggest three-quarter time comeback in the history of the sport. But I'm not sure we've seen anything like it from a player either.

Yes, the pure talent, the specky, the kick at goal which could not have been more precise. But then the craziness, and the sense-making of the Saints players. Faced with a unique situation, they contrived a unique solution, knowing that if we could just get the ball in the hands of Nas, well, he would do the rest.

The leadership was extraordinary. Marcus Windhager and Rowan Marshall, who with Nas, invented the whole thing. And Marshall's kick... the best comparison is to an NFL Quarterback. It was Peyton Manning-esque.

But it also drew comparisons with a Michael Jordan moment. When with seconds to go, the whole team aligns to one strategy: "Just get it to Mike" - famously called 'The Shot'.

"Just get it to Nas."

The plan, perfectly executed, and Nas did the rest.

Extraordinary.

Play on!
